Married life

Joyful news! I’ve got married and changed my name. My surname has changed from Kitunen to Pylvänen. However, my business name [toiminimi in Finnish] stays as before, that is, Suvi Kitunen.

Hello from UD2012 in Oslo

This is the 3rd day at the Universal Design conference in Oslo. I presented a paper that’s pulled together with Antti Raike and Päivi Rainò. The abstract is available at UD12 website. I’ve followed mostly ICT sessions and learnt and heard presentations – among others – about the development of mobile and tablet apps, services and games for children, elderly and blind such HaptiMap project. I’ve also heard the lessons learnt from Norwegian e-voting system, aesthetic experiences of architecture, interesting RHYMY project and Universal Museum Guide using Livescribe smart pen and educational tools developed by Touch Graphics.

SIGCHI Finland honorable mention

SIGCHI Finland awarded me with a honourable mention at their autumn seminar in Helsinki. The mention was given for my MA Thesis that took part in MA Thesis competition arranged by SIGCHI every year. Award in Shanghai

My MA thesis about designing web sites for Deaf people was awarded 3rd prize in an exhibition of 400 student works from the over 90 Cumulus member institutions around the world.

The exhibition was organised in Shanghai as part of the 20th Anniversary conference of the Cumulus Association. The prizes for the best works were judged by the Cumulus Board. A total of over 300 works were submitted to a variety of set themes. My Masters thesis projects was awarded 3rd prize under the theme of ‘Sustainability and Social Innovation’. The project is about designing a deaf culture specific web site.

At the International Design Conference on Inclusive Design a member of Team Finland – the winner for Best Presentation of the 24 Hour Design Challenge.
